Recognition Celebration

Literacy Suffolk takes great pride in the dedication and achievements of its adult learners, tutors, and other volunteers. An annual Recognition Celebration is held to honor the hard work and accomplishments of program participants and other supporters. Family members are also invited to share in the festivities of the evening.

A highlight of the evening is the unveiling of the latest edition of “Reading for Life,” an annual publication of student writings printed in the form of a magazine. The student authors are invited to autograph their stories for the attendees, which is always a very proud occasion.

The foremost purpose of the event, however, is to recognize program participants who have distinguished themselves as tutors, learners, and volunteers of the year. Years of service to the organization is also recognized, as are new citizens and GED recipients. Proclamations are presented to honorees by local elected officials. A guest speaker is invited each year to address the audience. Past keynote speakers have included community leaders, elected officials, and media personalities.

This uplifting event never fails to renew and inspire everyone’s commitment to continue to advance literacy in Suffolk County! See photos from the last Recognition Celebration!
